Collection: Movado

Many know the Movado brand for its signature Museum dials and modern design, but few know its history. Movado was started in 1881 by Achilles Ditesheim at 19 years old, when he hired 6 watchmakers and opened a small shop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. In 1905 the company received its current name of Movado, which means “always in motion” in the international Esperanto language. During this time, Movado was an innovator in the watch industry, with such innovations as a watch movement constructed on three planes that allowed the case to curve along the wrist. Movado is also credited with creating a Calendomatic model that displayed the month, day, and date. It was in 1947 when Movado introduced the single-dot dial that would be named the Movado museum dial. Movado is a legendary watch brand, chosen by celebrities such as Elizabeth Taylor.
